A Few Suggestions...

During the month of January we have been exploring what it means to be a part of the Fellowship Family in 2010. We are discovering that being a part of Fellowship Church means that we are ONE family, that we need to focus on reaching ONE person in 2010, that we all need to be connected to ONE ministry and ONE group. Finally, we will emphasize that we all need to make ONE investment into God’s Kingdom and we’ll talk about how to do that specifically.

At the close of whatever service you attend on Sunday, you will have the opportunity to recommit or in some cases commit for the first time to be a member of Fellowship Church. Membership matters. Are you ready to commit? To help you get ready I have a few suggestions:

1. Evaluate your priorities. Is God’s Kingdom important to you? Are you involved or desiring to be involved in the life of Fellowship Church?

2. Evaluate your blessings. Has your life been positively blessed by God? Has the ministry of Fellowship Church made a positive difference in your life?

3. Evaluate your excitement. Are you encouraged by the opportunities that God has put in your life? Are you in agreement with the direction of Fellowship Church?

4. Evaluate your willingness. How open have you been to receive from godly people that God has brought into your life? Can you allow others in Fellowship Church to encourage and minister to you?

5. Evaluate your heart. What has God done for you? Are you willing to be a part of giving to God and others through Fellowship Church?

Hopefully these five evaluations will help you to make the important step of recommitting or committing for the first time to being a member of Fellowship Church.

ONE & The Fellowship Family

For the last several weeks we have been exploring what it means to be a part of the Fellowship Family in 2010. If you have missed any messages, I really hope that you have gotten them either online or picked up a CD in our Media Center. As we really focus throughout this entire year on the theme of ONE we will discover amazing things from God as we harness the power of focus.

As a church family we can’t do everything. In our busy society we have to decide what is most important and beneficial. We have to eliminate and by eliminating, we discover what is most important. And what is most important? ONE. It has been accurately said that if there was just ONE person on the earth, Jesus still would have died for that ONE person. ONE is valuable.

We are discovering that being a part of Fellowship Church means focusing on ONE. So far, we have emphasized that we are ONE family, that we need to focus on reaching ONE person in 2010, and that we all need to be connected to ONE ministry. This Sunday we will emphasize that we all need to be connected to ONE group. And next Sunday we will emphasize that we all need to make ONE investment into God’s Kingdom and we’ll talk about how to do that specifically next Sunday.

Starting next Sunday, we will all take part in the very special act of recommitting or in some cases committing for the first time to be a member of Fellowship Church. I personally believe that membership matters. It needs to count for something and it needs to require something. In the case of our church it lets all of us know who is really committed to the ministry of Fellowship Church because being a member requires commitment. Are you ready to commit?

ONE Continued

ONE is in full swing! I think as we really focus throughout this entire year on the theme of ONE we will discover amazing things from God as we harness the power of focus. I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, focus creates blindness. When we are focused on the things that are important, we become blind to the things that are less important and would normally distract us if we were not focused.

Can we as a church family focus on ONE for an entire year? Can we keep as the banner before us the theme of ONE? I sure hope and pray so.

During this month we are engaged in a five week message series that explains the theme of ONE! Each Sunday we are exploring a different component of ONE that we need to keep as the focus. We are discovering that being a part of Fellowship Church means focusing on ONE Family, ONE Person, ONE Ministry, ONE Group, and ONE Investment.

Everything in the Christian life revolves around commitment. God committed His Son to be the sacrifice for us. Jesus committed Himself willingly to be the sacrifice. We then commit our all to Him as we surrender our lives to Him and as we seek to follow Him daily in our Christian walk. And then we commit ourselves to our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ as we live in Christian community with one another.

I want to encourage you to be sure to get each of the 5 ONE messages this month. If you’ve missed any, you can get them on the web or you can get a CD on Sunday. Then at the end of January or beginning of February, you will be able to make the powerful step of recommitting or in some cases committing for the first time to be a member of Fellowship Church.

Focused on ONE,

Breakthrough in 2010...

2010 will be a breakthrough year for many! In order for this year to get started in the right direction, I want to encourage you to spend the month of January in prayer and fasting. Here are some answers to common questions about fasting…

What is the purpose of fasting? The primary purpose is to deny our bodies the pleasure and familiarity of food so that we are drawn closer to God. We are to spend the time that we would normally eat food in prayer and meditation instead of eating. Two words could summarize fasting: 1) Intimacy – when we fast, the closeness we experience with Jesus is amazing. 2) Breakthrough – I don’t fully understand it; but it is a fact that breakthrough of all kinds happen when we fast.

How do I pray when I fast? 1) Ask God to cleanse you of sin and make your heart pure before Him. Allow Him to reveal areas of your life that need cleansing. 2) Daily and moment by moment breath out prayers of reliance upon Him to strengthen you and sustain you as you fast. 3) Petition God. Be bold. Ask God in faith and expectation for spiritual renewal!

Is there only one way to fast? No! The Bible is filled with many different forms of fasting from individual to corporate, from short to long, from total avoidance of food to partial avoidance of food. Personally, I am seeking to fast from one meal each day and spend that time in prayer rather than eating.

What nutrients do I take in when I fast? Be sure to increase your water intake and supplement this with various juices and vegetable drinks throughout your fast.

It is my hope that this information will aid you as you join our church body in this season of prayer and fasting!
